O presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) enviou o projeto de lei complementar 233/2023 que recria o DPVAT (Danos Pessoais por Veículos Automotores Terrestres), o seguro obrigatório de proteção às vítimas de acidentes de trânsito no país. O texto é de autoria do Ministério da Fazenda, comandado por Fernando Haddad. Se aprovado em 2023, a cobrança pode começar a valer em 2024.
A cobrança havia sido suspensa pelo presidente Jair Bolsonaro, em 2019. Segundo o Governo Federal, a decisão foi tomada para diminuir o número de fraudes e extinguir os gastos públicos com a supervisão e regulação do DPVAT.
